I try to approach most things in live with the 'reasonable man' approach - would I ask someone to x,y,z because it's reasonable. There is nothing reasonable about selling someone a car with one key given the high cost of losing that one key. Now maybe if the dealer specifically warned the buyer stating "Look, DO NOT lose your only key because the consequences will be a $1000 repair bill. Be sure to get a copy made as soon as possible" In my book that would be the dealer being reasonable, and then morally you'd have no right to complain. Most people these days, are still used to the days when getting a spare key cut cost them a couple bucks. Or worst case scenario, if you lost all your keys, you'd call a lock smith and pay $100.
I don't what, if anything, the dealer said. But if the dealer didn't mention this to me, I'd feel he had a moral (and possibly legal) responsibility.
My two cents
