I wish VW would do a factory-sponsored ECU reprogramming of my Passat 1.8T. I'm limited to aftermarket, and when I tried it last year, the cheap piece of **** died on me on the highway (the ECU; I don't blame the car), stranding my family at night in the middle of nowhere. Cost me $2000 in towing, hotel, labor, and new factory ECU getting my car running again. Plus having to live with a really pissed-off wife for a while.

Now, a factory-sponsored, warranty-keeping upgrade sounds like the right ticket. It's a shame, VW even has the Audi TT to steal the programming from (30 HP bump, not as big as the aftermarket guys, but still plenty nice), so it would be all profit for them.

Guess they don't want the lowly Passat outdoing the A4 and A6.

I know, you're asking why I don't buy this upgrade for my 95. It's my wife's 95, and she likes it fine the way it is. Besides, given our experience in the Passat that night, if I came near her baby with another "turbo chip", she'd kill me :)
