Brake snag

Changing pads and rotors on the front. Everything going beautifully until I notice that the rubber boot that covers the piston is torn. Not sure how it got that way. Car has 29K on it and boot on other side is in great shape. Almost looks like it may have been that way from the factory.
Saab dealer says caliper rebuild kit is about $50. Thinking about giving it a shot. Anythng special about rebuilding a caliper?
Hope not, parts on order..car on blocks.
