Although the TL and the Accord share common platforms, I wouldn't dismiss the TL because it's "a tweaked up Accord"
What I'm getting at is, the latest Accord is a great vehicle, and this Honda/Acura platform is truly state-of-the-art. I would look at it like this: the Accord is a detuned TL.
The Accord benefits quality-wise from having genes in common with the TL, while the TL benefits because its price can be kept lower, while sacrificing very little. The TL ain't no Cadillac Cimarron.
In terms of reliability, refinement, and road noise, the latest Accord truly shines, and an everyday Accord LX 4 cyl feels much more expensive than its $20k sticker price would otherwise suggest. A real jewel. But a little boring to drive, unlike a turbo SAAB.
SAAB certainly should "kick it up a notch" with the 9-5. I know AWD cannot be added to the current platform, but they could add things like DVD navigation--buyers in this segment expect it to be available, as an option at least. An aux input for the stereo would be great too, as well as Bluetooth capability.
DVD nav, aux input, and Bluetooth are available in Europe, why not here? (DVD in the Euro 9-5, aux & Bluetooth in the Euro 9-3SS)
