Marriage/Divorce and other Myths

After wading through all the previous threads (99% of them emphatically negative!) on the 9-5 and 9-3 BB's regarding the notorious Marriage/Divorce lament over the inability to install an "un-divorced" CD changer in a 9-5, I just wanted to de-bunk this myth! I recently bought an "un-divorced" CD changer from a salvage yard (a gamble, to be sure, after reading the threads on this BB!), for which I was also given the VIN # from the "donor" 9-5. Entering the donor-car's VIN in the TECH-2 allows you to divorce the changer readily from its "ghost" host and simply re-marry to the new vehicle's VIN. (I'm thinking many dealers may have created a lucrative cottage industry charging $$$ to send unit off to Pioneer to be "reprogrammed", but then that may well still be the only option if the previous car's VIN is unknown.) I realize anti-theft security is what this headache is all about, but it seems like overkill to me....but it does enable Saab to keep selling $150 proprietary CD changers for $500, plus an infinite number of $$ervice calls at the dealer every time one needs to exchange or move one.
If you find yourself in SE CT and in need of a changer "anulment" (or any other reasonable & quality Saab repairs, for that matter!), ask for Steve at Titan Automotive in Clinton. Hope this proves to be of some help to someone in the future.
