Reliability is either average or below average compared to Japanese counterparts (ES330, I35, G35, TL).
I took a lot of heat when I said honestly about my 9-5 experience and my previous car was a Honda Accord. Not as fun and exciting as 9-5, but Honda saved me a ton of headaches and $$$.
I mentioned it recently but I spent a fortune fixing my '99 9-5 2.3t (75,500 mi) on power steering pump, water pump, idler pulley and timing belt. Exactly two weeks later, today, my SID says 'fill coolant'!! This means the coolant is probably leaking once again. Luckily my technician gave me one year warranty on parts and labor, but what a headache..I have to go back again and miss work!
I couldn't agree more with DW that many people here think that all these repairs/problems are nothing unusual.
My honest opinion is that 9-5 is made to wear out fast and that's gonna cost a lot of money to fix/repair/maintain for 20 years.
Like everyone says, it's fun and exciting..but be ready when your DI cassette blows up unexpectedly!!
