Everyone I know with an 'American' car has had so many little things go wrong...some mechanical, but lots of 'build quality' issues...
My wife's 2003 Saturn L300 has been in the shop 17 times so far for things like brakes, switches, window chatter, electronic mirror failure, dash lights, e-brake, tail light short, a/c broken, rattles, air leaks...etc. Here's the kicker...that was all before the car even rolled 5000 miles.
My dad has a 2002 Ford Econoline van...new ball joints, transmission fix, radio dead, wheel bearings, brake caliper and an oil leak....all before 10k miles.
Friend has a 2001 Oldsmobile (Aurora???)...
New transmission, new alternator, friend electrical system, head gasket, radiator leak, broken a/c, spontaneous airbag deploy...all within 25k miles.
Then I had a 1993 Dodge Stealth R/T....worst mistake of my life...won't even go into that.
I replaced the Stealth with a 1994 Volvo 850 with 90k miles....never one problem outside of replacing brake pads. Had a 1980 BMW 528i with 200k miles...only problem was a rear main tranny seal and a leaky radiator that happened at about 190k.
Just my $0.02...I will never buy an american made car again.
