...than to pretend that you do know when you don't. So it's not a stupid question. The DI Cassette is the Direct Ignition module, an electronic coil pack that has been used in various SAABs since 1990 (USA). On your 2000 Aero, it is the black rectangle right in the center top of the engine (it should say Direct Ignition on it). On older models it will be red but in the same location.
I just had my black DI replaced on my '00 Aero under factory warranty at only 39K miles. It was generating fault codes in my fuel management system for misfiring conditions that I could not even detect (the car ran great but the Check Engine light was on). This is a common problem on 9-5s, and the DI has been an item that fails, often without warning, since they came out in 1990. I also have a new DI in my 1992 9000 turbo, and take a good used one with me in the trunk on a long trip.
