I had enough slack that I could get under the seat with a ratchet and I ended up unbolting the seatbelt strap from the body so I could fold the seat back up again. Mine's still under warranty, but the dealer's pretty useless getting stuff like that fixed (last time I took it in it took them 2 days to replace the seatbelt, it should be a 1 hour job) I've been doing without a center seatbelt for a while now.
Getting at the seatbelt is easy- remove the back cover from the seat and then there's 4 torx screws to remove a steel access cover. Once that's off its just a matter of removing the old unit.
