A "streaky window" can not only be ugly, but dangerous as well.....especially at night in the rain. I too had this problem on our Saab 9-5, and on previous cars we owned. I tried every chemical known to modern science to eliminate the "streaks". Chemicals like paint remover, nail polish remover, professional windshield stripper, shout, etc. I tried different brands of wipers. The bottom line is nothing seemed to help. Further frustration finally led me to the answer, and maybe I can save you some grief.
I rent a lot of cars in the course of my work. Very seldom do I get a rental car where the windows would streak. Why is that?
I am very fussy about my cars. When I finished washing my car, I used to go to the windshield and to eliminate the water residue.....use WINDEX (or similiar product). The window looked great...until it rains and streaks, and streaks and streaks. This is why the rental car windsheilds are usually streak free. The rental company car washes use just water, or soapy water. Solution....when you wash your car use a product for your windshield that you buy in the grocery store called Bon Ami. It is an extremely mild cleaner that in no way harms the windshield. Use a separate sponge to wash your windshield, not the car wash sponge. (This product was recommended to me by someone in the Porsche Club, by the way). I use the Bon Ami, and then follow with a small amount of Simple Green. Then rinse. After a few washings, no more streaks. None. After you wash the car, and the windshield, use just a clean, lint free towel to dry the windshield (not the one you just dried the car with!)
If you follow this procedure, you should end up with a nice clean and streak free windshield. (I am assuming that your wiper blades are not worn out!) Report back....and let me know that this worked for you too.(I didn't want you not seeing where you were going and running into me!)
