You can get a good deal at the end of lease. I did the following last spring on my 2000 9-5. Original buyout was $19500 from SAAB Leasing. A few months before lease end I went to dealer and said simply “I will buy this car from you as a Certified Pre-Owened for $17,800. Can you arrange this with Saab leasing?” It took five minutes to get a “yes” answer. The dealer took care of everything. I got a CPO with 100,000 mile SAAB warranty for the asking price. I do not know the details of the dealer negotiations with SAAB Leasing, but I am certain they made a tidy profit. Essentially, I guess they “bought” the car wholesale from SAAB Leasing and then sold it to me without my having to turn it in etc. Essentially everyone wins with this deal. I get a good car at a reasonable price, the deal makes some money, and SAAB does not have the hassle of dealing with auctioning a lease return. Also, my lease payment had been $326 per month for 3 years.
Overall I have a car with a 100,000 mile warranty for less than $29,000 total paid; a better deal than if I had bought the car new instead of leasing.
