Grand Prix GTP vs 9-5 Aero

I had a chance to drive a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP earlier this week. Here's a few comments in comparison to my 2000 Aero. The engine power was pretty amazing, which it should be given the supercharged 3.8 liter V6. Off-the-line performance was MUCH better, but mid-range performance was not noticibly different. The absence of turbo lag and torque steer was nice. I didn't like the steering feel, kind of numb compared to the 9-5. The EPA mileage rating of 18/28 is not much below the Aero, surprisingly. I have to admit, I wouldn't mind having that engine in my 9-5. Much more fun for low-speed around-town driving. Other than the engine, though, there wasn't much to like about the Grand Prix. Overall quality still felt surprisingly poor, typical GM. Interior details were cheap, space was cramped compared to the 9-5. The transmission seemed quite unremarkable. Given that the 2004 Grand Prix is a new design, I expected better. Oh well, it still made an interesting rental car. :)
