Which model (or what suspension upgrades) do you have on your 9-5? My '99 has the Eibrach Pro Kit w/ the upgraded Aero sways and 17" BBS RK wheels (amongst other non-suspension related upgrades) and I've been pretty impressed w/ the car in the twisties, as well. When I had the car in SC I used to travel up to the Blue Ridge Parkway (the back roads, not the main one) and really had a lot of fun up there. If you push too hard, the car will exhibit some understeer characteristics, but if you ease up on the gas mid-corner, the front end will tuck in.
Regarding your comment on the shifter, have you ever thought of putting the Saab Savior short shifter in your car? Mine is a 5spd, as well and I wasn't happy w/ the rubbery feel of the stock shifter. The travel never really bothered me, mostly just the shift feel. This summer I decided to install the short shifter mentioned above (first installation on a 9-5) and have been quite impressed w/ it. The throws are a lot shorter, but what I really enjoy is the improved shift feel. It has a somewhat bolt-action feel now.
Have fun in your 9-5. You're lucky you have twisty roads in your area. I'm in Jacksonville, FL now w/ zero twisty roads (on and off-ramps are the only "twists" we have here :( ).
