I have gone back and forth on this one -- you really need one of each;)
Since early 2000 I went 00 Viggen > 02 Aero > 99 Viggen. At one point I had both. That was fun. At any rate I found they are very different cars and each have there own pluses.
Personally the Viggen is more fun to drive. I like the hatch and I like the quick feeling of the Viggen. It just feels like a car you can toss around and have fun with like when you first got your driver's license.
The aero handles like a dream and has a real presence about it. Its got a very comfortable interior and requires less attention than the Viggen. It has a great stock stereo and is much more comforting and steady at high speeds. The aero can feel a bit laggy out of the gate (compared to say a BMW 330), but at speed the car has incredible passing power. The Viggen (even the SE) don't have this sensation and feel fairly quick off the line due to less weight, but also enjoy the passing power.
I have been tossing around the idea myself of going back to an aero. $5K off + another $500 for loyalty is tempting. I might wait a bit though since the deals are bound to get better. I also might get the wagon this time, but that's only when I realize and want to accept that I have two little ones to drive around, and I haven't gotten there yet...that's what the other car is for...
Overall the 9-5 aero is definitly and upgrade to the 9-3 SE/Viggen -- no doubt about it.
