I had mine replaced under warantee when the car had 40K miles. I'm not even sure if there is a limit. The dealership told me that ALL 9-5s are entitled to one free battery. Actually, my car had already had it's free battery installed, before the last one died, but the dealership said there was no record of it in the system, so they were able to give me another one. The system does now indicate I received a battery so I'll have to buy the next.
I'm not sure if Saab will replace the battery once the vehicle is out of warantee, so I would advise anyone to simply have it replaced before your warantee expires. Just tell them it's required a jump a couple of times, and they will probably just replace the battery no questions asked. That's actually what happened to me. The dealer did a load test and was able to verify my car wasn't pulling too much from the battery when not running, tested the alternator, and concluded I simply needed a new battery. That was 8 months ago - no problems since.
Good Luck
