I have a 2001 9-5 with 56,000. I have only had it for a month. I asked the same questions. Most tell me that a saab will last for at least 200,000 miles and stay stucturally sound and tight. The cost to keep it running that way is much greater than say a toyota or a honda. However, most who drive a Saab don't mind the extra operating expenses. For instance the Direct ignition cassette goes out occasionally; the serpentine belt must be replaced and it's a pain. The CID (computer display goes out occasionally). Generally the car is awesome, but you need to have a couple of thousand dollars in the savings account dedicated to get you through the unexpected. This may be more than you would spend on some vehicles. The car is tight and it is well constructed. By the way, a mercedes would cost even more to operate so the Saab is a nice comprimise
