'99 9-5 Wagon.
The front alloys on my wagon were essentially all black from the layers of brake dust built up over time. I've tried several name brand tire cleaners and, with significant scrubbing, maybe 25% of the dust was removed. I thought about the OxiClean that I use to remove the organic stains from my toddler's clothes and the stains in my sink, etc., and decided to give it a shot.
I knew prior to placing on the wheels that OxiCLean (and all other name-brand versions) is non-toxic and bio-degradable so the risk of damage to the metal was minimal. So, I left a paste-like coating on the wheels for 15 minutes and then proceded to scrub vigorously with a small, plastic-wired brush. Alas! I have shiny alloys! I won't say it was a piece of cake to remove all of the brake-dust, but the OxiClean did make the removal process easier.
Just some FYI!
