Fuel gage stuck on "R"

I noticed my '01 Aero Wagon's gage was at about 1/8, and the SID said 80 miles remaining, when I parked the car to go into a store. When I restarted the engine the gage was on R, the low fuel warning light was illuminated and the SID now said 40 miles remaining. I topped up the tank (14.2 US gallons), and the gage (and SID) remain stuck at those readings and the low fuel light is still on.
I suspect the sender float is stuck on the new plastic fuel tank baffle the dealer installed a few weeks ago. I have gone over some speed bumps, hoping the sender would unstick itself, but so far no luck. Maybe as the fuel level drops it will work itself loose.
Anybody have any comments or words of sympathy? Does my diagnosis sound reasonable?
I guess it means another trip back to the dealer.....
