There really isn't much to share other than I had had several mechanical problems (the most recurring being suspension oriented) over the almost three years I owned the 9-3. All of the repairs were done at one or another Saab dealer(there were as many as five here in the DC area three years ago-and I tried them all). When I could finally no longer deal with the repairs, I decided to trade up to a 9-5 having had many as loaner cars while the 9-3 was in the shop. I never wrote Saab, I simply called their customer service area, explained the situation, told them I would like a credit towards the new car, but that I was going to trade for the 9-5 regardless. They said they would research it and in a week they got back to me and confirmed that I had had a number of problems (from service records I assume) and offered me $2500 in "good faith money"(their term, not mine) towards the new car. It was done that day by way of a fax to the dealer, but was of course only good if used towards the purchase of the new car. That really is about it-maybe I got lucky (though I can be an impossible bitch when it comes to stuff like this). Good luck-unfortunately I don't know what really determines their decision (# and seriousness of repairs maybe?) to offer "good faith money" or not.
