I've never had the pleasure of an easy muffler job!! I bought my '99 9-5 with the outer shell rusting away over 2 years ago and no internal rust through quite yet (only a matter of time I suppose..) My previous "good old boy garage" put me to shame as I drove up in my '87 900 Turbo with the muffler casing beaten accordion style along the length of its internal pipe as I had no luck separating the joints after removing the clamps. He just wheeled out the hydraulic dolly lift, jacked the car up on its side and sliced away the pipe like butter with an acetelyne torch. Almost didn't take any money, but for the $10 I forced him to take in gratitude.
Anyway...I'll tackle a muffler, but with better tools in the future!! Thanx for the detailed 9-5 muffler procedures. I'm looking at the Remus replacement from time to time and I consider it a better deal than the "aluminized/galvanized suitcase" rear muffler changeout, especially if the Remus can be had for $350 or less. I miss the 900 Turbo growl!!!
