Is This Dangerous? (ACC) Posted by Paul [Email] (#792) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Paul) on Tue, 23 Mar 2004 18:18:22 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
When I drive my Saab with the ACC off the air from the driver's side vent is hot as is the air from the center vent. The air from the passenger's side vents are cold. This happens at all outside or inside temperatures. I have found that turning on the ACC, setting both sides to LO, pressing the ECON switch and lowering the fan speed I can slowly get outside temperature air flowing through all the vents.
Question 1. Is there any chance that the air coming into the driver's side (hot at first) contains carbon monoxide and exhaust fumes? No exhaust smell is evident from this stream. I know I can not smell CO.
Question 2. When I press ECON may I assume that the compressor is OFF and the cool air is really the outside air and not due the air conditioner?
I have tried the diagnostic test (press Auto and Off simultaneously) and I sometimes get fault codes and sometimes do not. There is a discernible clunk when the diagnostic runs. Is this normal?
Thanks in advance for your help.
