The Klingon wheels were the original factory installed wheels on the '01 Aero, but they were removed, prior to sale, from a large number of '01 Aeros in the USA. Some marketing dude at SaabUSA didn't like the Klingons and thought the '01 Aero would sell better with two piece BBS wheels, even at a $1,500 premium. So, SaabUSA decided to change the wheels on a large number of (but not all) '01 Aeros when they hit the docks here in the USofA, and then add $1,500 to the sticker for the "optional" BBS wheels. They bought a bunch of BBS wheels, had them shipped to the docks where the Aeros enter the country, and then hired someone to pull the factory Klingons off the brand new cars, pull the rubber, mount and balance the rubber on the BBS wheels, then put the BBS wheels on the brand new cars. Whew. SaabUSA then increased the sticker price of those cars for the "optional" BBS wheels. You could buy Aero's without this "option" upgrade but my guess is that they changed the wheels and increased the prices on at least 1/3 of the Aeros that entered the country.
At the end of the wheel changing excercise, SaabUSA had a big pile of Klingons to get rid of. They dumped them at a fire sale price, just to get rid of them. For a while afterwards you could buy, for as little as $200 per set of four delivered to your door, 17" Klingons from the guy who bought them all from SaabUSA. A fantastic deal. I bought a set of four to use as winter wheels to go with my '01 Aero Wagon. That car had escaped the wheel change drill and still had the factory Klingons with summer rubber.
