It was said when synthetics first got popular, that the best thing for older sludge saturated engines was to clean the oil pan, and flush the engine...the synthetic was made from a consistent particle size (unlike dino oil which was a conglomerate of particle sizes), and thus wouldn't settle out in stratified layers while sitting. Dirt was held in suspension much better, and more likely to find the oil filter. The solution also involved initially changing the filter quite often when changing an old car to synth.
The other concern was that the first synthetics would not "swell the seals" like dino oil did, and eventually there would be oil leaks everywhere. I seem to recall that "parafin based" synthetics did NOT have this drawback, and became more the norm. I don't believe this is an issue now, but there are still those comments made from people who remember the old arguments against synthetics.
I would switch that turbo in a heartbeat if I were you! And what do they mean that you don't drive in a way that needs high quality oil?????
