I thought that there was no way AWD could be added to the existing 9-5 body "tub", and that we would have to wait until the Saab sport ute/ hybrid/ crossover (whatever) or a completely redesigned 9-5. From what has been related so far, it doesn't sound as if the body has undergone a major rework. Can anyone confirm or refute this?
If the '02 Aero offers AWD and a 5 speed I will be really, really ticked - I wanted AWD desperately, but decided to go with my '01 Aero Wagon because Audi would not sell me the car I wanted (A6 Avant 2.7T or 4.2, 6 speed - unavailable in the USA - yet). One consolation is that an AWD Aero would probably not quite have that sparking acceleration due to the additional driveline losses. But it would surely go like a bat out of hell in the twisties and slippery conditions.
Cars are like computers...if you wait to buy the perfect one, you will never have a car. The next one is almost always better equipped, faster, and/or cheaper. We did luck out when we decided to buy a 2000 A4 (my wife's car) - the new A4 is not nearly as attractive. Audi got it right, then screwed it up.
