I posted a message this past weekend indicating that the DI cassette on my 2001 9-5 Aero, 19K miles, failed at a restaurant. Due to the parking situation at the restaurant, the tow truck summoned could not access the car.
I'm happy to report that today everything has been resolved! I sent a fax to my dealer, Barrier Saab, in Bellevue, Wash, on Sunday, and they contacted me on Monday. Today one of their service reps picked me up by my house (about 10 miles from the dealer, in the opposite direction from where the car was), and we drove to the restaurant together for him to install the new DI cassette. I then drove the car back to the dealership, where they flashed the new software, and also put in a new battery (battery apparently was damaged in staying in such low condition for so long -- it wouldn't keep a charge when they tested it).
In any case, although obviously I would have preferred this situation not happening in the first place, I'm incredibly pleased with the service I got from Barrier, and wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone who needs service in the Seattle area. When they called me on Monday, it was basically "how can we resolve this situation most conveniently for you". My Monday was full, so we decided to go out to the car today. I was especially pleased with their perspective because there actually is a Saab dealer about 2 miles from where the car was, so theoretically they could have told me to call them.
Also, an interesting observation: when the new DI cassette was put in, I could feel right away that the engine was running a bit rougher at idle than before the old cassette failed (not just right at the beginning, but any time I had to stop for a light during the 10-15 mile trip back to the dealer). However, after the new s/w update, it was running smooth again . . .
Now the only thing is during the next service visit, I have to turn off that inane "shift up" light again! I had it turned off when we bought the car nearly three years ago, but I guess that reflashing the software turned it back on.
