I chickened out on the front end. I actually took the left strut out, but then realized that I can't get the top nut off. It wasn't rusted or anything, but it is a rather big and heavy nut (21 mm), and there was not enough clearance to get it out with my wimpy home tools. So I put it back and went to the dealer. It took them a bit over three hours to replace the struts and do the alignment.

The car feels completely new. It rolls less and dives less, feels more tight and solid overall. I cannot believe how soft my old suspension was in comparison. Surprisingly, the new setup does not feel uncomfortable or harsh over bumps.

I am now wondering if the greatly reduced nose dive transferred more braking effort to the tiny square brake pads (will it also mean less dust in front?). Perhaps I should consider new style rear calipers once my old rotors are due. I wonder what other people with upgraded early 9-5s are running. turbo5spd, did you do anything to your brakes?


To those asking for part number of the kit, there's no straight answer. There are four kits, and the selection would depend on your body style, strut codes and color markings. I can provide you with part numbers if you gather all this information, but then again your nearby dealer can do the same. Or just download the EPC from eDonkey and do it yourself ;)
