Thanks eveyone for your advice. I installed the euro spec drivers side rear view mirror. Declined the dealers offer to install for 120 bucks. Installation took 3-4 minutes and I was careful and slow.

If others are doing this I found a great tool. I took the silver metal wire off one of those small black spring type paper clips that are so ubiquitous around the office. Don't use too big a clip or the wire will be too thick. Remove one of the silver metal pices from a smaller clip. This is the perfect tool. Spread it some, rotate the mirror so u can get behind it. You can then hook the end into the circular spring behind the mirror on the mount and pop it off. Its really simple ...just be gentle. Once the upper part is popped off, the rest folows with a gentle pull.
I then pulled the heating contacts, installed the existing round spring on the new mirror. Plugged the wires into the contacts and gently popped the the mirror into place. Bingo...done in 4 minutes.

Evaluation ? Awesome...blind spot is gone ...can see cars in both rear view and side mirror and they enter my field of vision before they leave the mirror view. The result is much greater driving confidence in traffic. I don't inderstand why all cars don't have this .
