Saab is using semi-synthetic oil, not synthetic oil.

SaabUSA is selling their branded oil - retail, over the parts counters of authorized dealers - for $2.50 per liter in US, or $10 (US) for the 4 liters needed for a change. You can buy the 'official' Saab semi-syn oil from any number of the advertisers on this site for 20% off that, or $2.00 per liter.

My local Saab dealer (Boston area) is charging $29.95 US for an oil change, including Saab oil, Saab filter, and any other fluids needed at the time.

Your dealer sounds like he's a bit of a gouger, looking to take advantage of what he thinks is his captive customers. You may want to take all of your business elsewhere.
