I had a similar problem, and also in a situation when I was in a hurry. Took the cover off the window switch cluster, shorted the wires with a picket knife, rolled the window up and left.
Later at home I took the switch apart. Inside there are two little rods and a rocker, which pushes one of them when tilted. The "window up" rod wore out and became too short to reach its contact. I just swapped it with a rear window switch (the rods are tilted in different directions) -- they both work fine so far.
