I just bought a 2000 Aero. When investigating the service records, I discovered that the original wheels had been stolen just a few months after the car was first delivered to the original owner. This was in Phoenix, where there aren't very many Saabs even. Thus I am installing wheel locks, so that I don't have to repeat the previous owner's unfortunate experience. For those looking for wheel locks for the 9-5, here is some info from my experience trying to find them in AZ.
First the bad news:
- The local auto parts chains do not carry the right ones.
- I called Passen Motorsports as recommended by someone else on this board, and they treated me like I was a wierdo for calling from out of state. They said they don't do mail order and suggested that I look locally. Strange. Supposedly they carry the McGards locks which look like those in the Saab catalog.
Now the good news:
- Discount Tire can order locks for $31 + tax. These are Gorilla brand, part# 47179N. You can see the entire Gorilla calalog online at http://www.gorilla-auto.com. Note that the Gorilla locks don't appear to be quite as secure as the official Saab ones since they use an exterior key pattern instead of an inset one. However I think they should be plenty safe since the bolts are set so deep into the wheels (at least on the "LV" style wheels that I have).
Below are the specs for the bolts. This is based on pulling one of my bolts and measuring it. Since my car may not have the factory bolts, I can't guarantee the lengths. My bolts are galvanized, not chromed, and say "ASS" and "709" on the heads.
- 12mm x 1.50 thread
- Cone seat
- approx 2" total bolt length
- approx 1" shank length
The Gorilla part # listed above has 2.09" overall length and 1.10" shank length.
