of the problems - hence the new software, which specificially addresses DI life and diagnostics, and the procession of hardware revisions. My 2002 OE cassette (dated Jan, '02) is an earlier revision than my spare (dated early '03, iirc). What else is being cooked up, I don't know (other than Saab being stripped of the level of autonomy which allowed this disaster in the first place. Hence forth, Saab engine controls will be using Corporate components, like the DI in the V6 or the 9-3SS.)
I'm told that the software update is a warranty item if your DI dies under warranty - Saab's current procedure for replacing a DI is "step 1 - install the software update, step 2 - run the diagnostic and report, step 3 - R&R the DI. Otherwise, it's "customer pay." Case in point for having good relations with your dealer, b/c the "book rate" is like half an hour, all of which time is spent with the car connected to the Tech II and the mechanic drinking coffee, talking to you, or working on another car. It's something that could easily be performed as a courtesy for a faithful and paying customer.
