Don't think you missed the web page link I cited. I had the url from an email that Mike sent me. I don't think he has attached the url to his website yet, though you can order the UCII through his website. (The order page does have an option for the UCII.)

The mounting pins are very sharp and small diameter. They don't appear to damage the carpeting at all. I've pulled the cupholder out and repositioned it several times in the last couple of days with no evidence of damage. However, as to whether you can puncture something behind the carpet, I'm clueless. (I did have the same concern but my obsession with getting a decent cupholder overcame my reluctance.) In any event, my car still runs after several mounting efforts so apparently I haven't punctured a vital component.)

As for comfort/convenience, that's the reason I've repositioned the holder a couple of times. There is actually quite a bit of room down there so you should be able to find a spot that meets your preferences. I found the best position is almost at floor level so the bottle rests on the floor and is held loosely by the arms of the holder. When driving I can reach it easily without looking and replace the bottle without cramming it into the holder. (You will have to bend the aluminum arms to accommodate very large bottles. 20 oz and larger.)

There's no felt on the holder. As you can see from the photos, it's aluminum with black plastic covering on the edges of the arms. Looks much better than the alternative I had on the door. (Which, by the way, managed to mar the edge of the storage bin and make the bin largely useless.)
