Hello,

4 months ago, I bought a 2002 SAAB 9-5 ARC sedan. It now has about 42,000 miles on it. I had the dealer run the car VIN in his computer prior to purchasing it and all of the required service/maintenance had been performed. Runs very well. I have had 2 instances where my car’s check engine light started blinking and went into limp-home mode

Event #1:
I was driving on the interstate. Car had ~1/8 tank of gas. I had just driven on the down side of a rise in the road and was trying to merge into the interstate hwy exit lane. Speed was about 25 mph. I lost acceleration. Engine light was blinking. No other lights came on. Car was in limp-home mode. I pulled over to the side and I stopped the car. Checked all fluid levels and all fine. Had it towed to the dealer. They found no stored error codes and said car ran fine. They said car must have gulped some air with the gas.

Event #2:
Driving car about 60 mph on interstate about 3 days ago. Car lost acceleration and was in limp-home mode. Let off accelerator to slow down and pull off to side of road. Car started bucking and then killed on me. After my car killed on me, the battery light and oil light came on. My car had about 1/2 tank of gas. I waited 5 minutes and checked fluid levels. All fine. Noticed a burning smell. Waited 10 minutes. Car started fine and drove normally. Drove to gas station and filled up on premium gas. it has not happened since.

I generally use regular unleaded. Can anybody give me any advice on what is causing this?

Thanks in advance,

Mike
