Cleaning 17" BBS wheels on 01 95 Aero

All,
I just bought a laser red 2001 95 Aero. Car is awesome. It is a nice upgrade from my 96 900SE. The Aero has more pull and a nicer ride.
My car has the 2 piece 17" BBS wheels. I have used P21S wheel cleaner with great success. P21S is gentle to the finish and really gets the wheels nice and shiny.
On to my problem. There are black, gray, and white "splotches" (Sorry. If you saw the marks you would call them splotches also) on the rim portion of the wheel. It looks as if someone used a harsh chemical to clean the wheel. The cleaner disolved the silver finish on the spokes which then got deposited on the rim as the "splotches". The "splotches" are hard and rough. I have tried metal polish without success.
Any idea how to remove the "splotches" without damaging the finish on the rim?
Thanks
Rich Maurin
