Living in southern NH, I have similar road conditions to those you have. I use Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires during the warmer months, and have the Saab supplied Gislaved tires on 16 inch alloy wheels for the winter. I am not sure why you would bother with the steel wheels as at tis point, there are just tons of good quality alloys out there that will stand up quite well to the roads aroud us. If you hit someting big, your steelie is going sown just like my alloy. It's my experience that the all season tires are not up to the challenge of snow conditions around here. With the winter tires on my car(2002 Aero sutomatic) there is no need at all for four wheel or all wheel drive. My car gets through anything. The alloys just look so much better.
