The 9-5 is a great Saab as it blends many qualities in one car: safety, comfort, performance, fuel efficiency and practicality come to mind, There are many great cars out there but how many combine so many qualities under one roof ? As for reliability I am sure you can relate to the fact it has been rated as the most reliable European car, which is basically on par with American cars.
I wouldn't worry about GM ownership. The General has invested massively in Saab, which warrants better service and the expansion of the product line. As for a Saab becoming a Chevy, you might want to test drive a Saab 9-3 and then a Chevrolet Malibu. You will see how they are worlds apart even though they are built on the same GM Epsilon platform. Nothing wrong with making the Malibu better, but it sire aint no Saab !
Hope you go for it. I am sure many here will tell you they are glad they did.
