Logic will have no part in any discussion of the relative merits between the stick and the automatic Mike. If someone comes in determined to have the stick because they say that they feel "in control" by choosing thier own gears, you are not going to change thier minds. What will eventually change their minds is when the conventional manual gearbox and step on it clutch goes the way of the buggy whip and the carbueretor. Modern automatics do a far better job of interfacing with all of the on-board electronics that control things like ABS brakes, TCS traction control, ESP stability programs, and eventually intelligent cruise control such as already found on MB, BMW, Acura and others. All of these systems send information between the car's drive train and the engine, and having a driver in between messing it all up is a step back in time in my opinion.
The manumatic concept of the electro-hydraulic gearbox will win out since a manufacturer can buy or build a single unit for the entire production run and not have to design, build and then support two different drive trains in the same vehicle.
