I put the unit in last week, and am having it removed this Wednesday. I have the Terk XM Commander, probably the same unit you have. The antenna placement is not your problem. FM modulation is the big one. The unit has 6 preset FM frequencies you can choose from. The lowest one, 88.7 Mhz, cannot be captured by the seek function on my 9-5's radio. That leaves 5 to choose from. I have tried all of them, and found that intemittantly, you will get periods of hiss that can actually be louder than the music, and that it can last from a minute to perhaps ten. It depends where you are driving. If you get too close to the station whose frequency you are using for the modulator, you will get that type of interference. I'm convinced now that XM needs to be a direct connection to the amplifier section of the radio to be worth putting in. Sometimes there can be a brief drop out off the signal for maybe a second or so, and that might be related to the satellite's view of your antenna,so might not be a solvable problem, but it did not bother me as much as the hissing and noise. My next sedan that replaces my 9-5 will have XM built in. Saab has taken entirely too long in getting this feature in place. Satellite radio has taken hold with just about every other manufacturer of high end cars. I'm astounded that they went to the trouble of getting a navagation equipped radio in the 2005 model, and did not make this a feature as well.
Having this as a manufacturers option also prevents having an antenna farm on your roof, since the XM antenna can be combined with the Onstar unit in the shark fin.
