Pistons slapping !?

When accelerating I can hear what I believe to be the sound of pistons slapping. Some technicians say that these engines are very "loose" in order to use less gas etc. and that it is normal for this engine to sound that way. Sound has not changed significantly for 25K miles and it is the same wether engine hot or cold. Runs perfectly even and answers perfect to the pedal. Should I worry ? Could it be something else ? I do not feel happy with the way the engine sounds but my greatest concern is the risk of break down. I run M1 0W40. Any comments are welcome.
