Slacken serp belt and feel upper idler pulley for dryness/wobble.
Clear belt from crankshaft pully, reconnect engine mount and start the engine. Now belt driven accessories cannot be source. If noise gone, problem is not inside the engine. So not idle for very long as the coolant is not circulating.
Engine noise? Could be low oil pressure, make sure that the low oil warning light comes on before cranking the engine. If not, most very likely a bad oil pressure switch. Replace that to know if you have (some)oil pressure.
Chain noise is buzzy, visualize speed of chain links going by. Sticking valves are slow, cam shaft goes half speed. Chemical cleaners can deal with that, as well as Mobil 1 5W40.
Low oil pressure. Pull VC and look for sludge. If sludge, use a chemical engine oil flush and follow directions. Use the drive with or idle and drain type. Follow up with AutoRX if really nasty. While draining oil, one can make up a wire loop and fish for crud thru the drain plug hole. If goo, slime or coffee grounds, this is serious and the pump intake screen may be plugged up.
Remove oil pressure relieve valve from bottom of timing chain cover, front corner and see if the spring loaded piston is stuck open. Any burrs, smooth them off. Happens some times.
If you have a heavy knocking sound, the implications are nasty. Got oil pressure light that works?
