I'd say spend a few extra bucks for the ipod if you are going to use it seriously. A thousand songs sounds like a lot, but once you incorporate the ipod into your lifestyle (assuming you will) you'll fill it up faster then you think. I'm not one to use the ipod walkin down the street, in fact I only really use it at the gym in terms of portability; but you get used to having your music library there; you'll just plugging it into the dock and its hooked into your home stereo system and you won't fuss with cd's anymore. Its great to have your whole primary music library right there. For 50 bucks more you get a lot more storage space and you can just synch the whole thing from itunes without having to take extra trouble managing separate playlists. Although I hate to make rash generalizations, the Mini is marketed to teens who find the $250 easier to come up with then 300 bucks and to women because its small and quite pretty. All the ipods are great products. User interface is impressive and I like them both but if you have a fairly large music collection...go for one of the regular ipods, you won't regret it.
