save a couple of bucks if you do regular work w/a dealer or know the mechanic; it literally takes a few minutes. I've had the "just pull it around, and we'll do it" response (friendly w/mechanic). This response is more likely if you have a reasonable approach w/them, and also if you know that it only takes minutes to do the programming. It does take more time if you have to figure out the menus of the tech II, but you shouldn't be paying shop time for them to learn how! (It took me ~5mins to figure locks at the independant for free)

Alternatively, I don't know where you are, but if you have an independant shop that has a tech II (one of my independant's does), they've been much more flexible about hooking it up w/o charging to change a setting.

If they were charging me market rate, I'd be shaming the saab dealer that wants an hour time for any of the Tech II changes. My other car is a '97 850 volvo which needs the equivalent "volvo II" tool which has similiar hookup and must be used to reset the service light among other things. It usually doesn't get reset, and we end up swinging by the dealer to turn out the light. I've never been hassled or charged, and they always ask if there's anything else I want to change while it's hooked up (tire size changes for both cars with the winter swap, etc)

I'm amazed at the difference between the saab and volvo dealers on this one; although my saab dealer has been pretty fair on this kind of stuff; goodwill is important. They still get you HARD on other work!
