While the car is a drive-by-wire throttle, the throttle body itself contains a motorized airflow plate, and that motor is driven from the ECU, which derives its throttle position output from pedal position, sport mode, gear, and "requested verses actual torque", among other things. The 'mapping' for throttle opening changes from a mostly linear curve to a higher initially sloped curve. The cool part is how it compensates for turbo lag (even in normal mode) by actually temporarily opening the throttle more than is necessary to compensate for the lag in the turbo. Once the turbo has spooled up, the throttle returns to the correct setting. I have not read anywhere where the throttle cannot be fully open in normal mode. In fact, 0-60 times & 1/4 mile times are identical for sport and normal modes when the pedal is fully depressed. Sadly, if you can back off from the throttle for portions of the acceleration, you can manage quicker times since during wide open throttle, the ECU makes the fuel mixture richer to keep the engine cool, backing off from the throttle slightly can allow for a leaner fuel mixture and actually get more torque from the engine. I wonder if chipped cars remove the wide open throttle rich fuel thing to help boost their boost (so to speak).
Wow, this was way longer than I wanted, sorry for the rambling.
