How long do DI's last? Good question. I've seen them last 30K miles, I've seen them last over 150K. Don't bet on getting 150K. One thing for sure - making sure that the spark plugs are gapped properly is CRITICAL to keeping the DI alive. And remember, spark plug gap increases as plugs age, so even if plugs don't need to be replaced every 5 or 10K miles, it never hurts to check the gap.
You can keep the plugs gapped properly, and the DI can still die. This isn't anything new - many other DI-equipped cars have similar problems (VW just went through a big recall on this).
I've never heard of anyplace rebuilding a DI, and I wouldn't trust one if someone did. DI's fail for a bunch of reasons, but the eventual end is arcing and burning. To be safe, you'd need to replace everything but the metal back plate - not worth the effort.
As DW says, you can find new DI's at eEuroparts (and other places) for about $289. eBay isn't a bad place to pick up a spare. They're really easy to replace on the side of the road, should it happen.
Does this sound bad? Not really. The only cars that don't break say TONKA on the side, and even then, only if left in the box. Yes, it hurts now, but that will pass. Cars have things that break, and they need replacement. The nice thing about the DI is that it is so bloody easy to replace.
