I was beyond the 36K limit for the GM warranty and they offered me the same deal as you (ie i was at 39K miles). I stressed a bit, after talking with many decided to save the $2400 US. For one, most items that will need repair will be wear items and not covered by any plan.
Also, i was looking at a 3 year 45K extension. Unfortunately rather than 45K after my 50K expires it starts now, so I would lose 11K off the original warranty (you would only lose 5K). As a result, I would be paying $2400 for an additional 34K miles after my orginal warranty would have expired. I could easily eat that up in 2 years. Further my service tech said they can usually get saab to pick up the tab up to 60K on the original warranty. That drops it to $2400 for an additional 24K miles.
In my opinion that is pretty steep. I look at aftermarket plans, but many will not warranty you over 30K miles and the ones that do appear suspect.
Good luck. MS
