I can't teach another mechanic how to if they don't feel or want to take the extra time to do it.
I just use a coat hanger wire where I bent the tip into a U so that it fit in through the drain hole.
I also bent it so that after it goes in through the drain it curves back down toward the bottom of oil pan and I can scrape/rake the bottom of pan and top of oil pickup and drag particles toward the drain hole if there is any.
What I can't do though is to get to the screen area of the pickup since it's very little clearance between pan bottom and pickup plus that the screen is bowed upwards in there.
