Shortly after my wife bought a new 9-3SE manual in 2002 I thought when it was time to trade in the SUV perhaps my wheels should get smaller. I have my eyes on a used 9-5 wagon now. I love the acceleration of the 9-3 but can’t see buying a second and I need a slightly bigger car for those family trips. I’m mainly looking at a 01-02 off lease. Now I don’t know which 9-5 to look at: Aero, Linear, or Arc and auto or manual.
How does the performance compare between the 3 lines? The 9-3 has awesome passing ability and I drive a lot of 2 lane state roads. If I want a slow wagon I’ll keep my SUV.
Does the 9-5 automatic rob much power? The 9-3 manual was noticeably quicker than the auto. It does however require a little attention to get a good off the line start — I’m not taking about drag racing a souped up Civic, but trying to get out of traffic fast when needed.
What about reliability? I don’t mean to offend anyone, but I really don’t like GM products. Is the 9-5 V6 deprived from the Opel/GM venture (I can’t say I like the reliability of either)?
Are there other major differences then engine type and trim packages?
