OEM Batteries, lifespan?

2 of the last 3 new Saabs I bought (93 9k CSE T & 00 Aero) both had OEM batteries that didn't last very long. Now my 04 Aero has 16k and will be a year old soon I am getting concerned. Has the quality of the OEM battery changed or are we still looking at 2 or so years? Seems like a weak link that wouldn't take any serious "engineering"(think DIC) to fix. I suppose the GM beancounters may have a say here. I left my car at the airport in Boston overnight Monday and last night(it was cold!!) the cranking was weak, which is why I posted.
Thanks,
JTMav
