The latest PCV mod involved three separate items, two of which are easy to reverse. TG may have a very valid point with his suggestion that we all wait until Saab makes some announcement. But I might reverse the easiest of the three first.
Ranked in order of ease of reversal:
1) Disconnect the small oil vent line from the oil fill tube, and remove the rubber cap installed on the 90-degree leg of the plastic valve cover PCV line fitting. Swap positions of the two pieces just removed, cap to oil fill tube, small line to plastic fitting. Zero cost.
2) Remove the partial check-valve from the PCV line leading from oil trap to turbo inlet pipe. Replace with a barbed hose connector fitting from you local hardware store. Cost might be 79 cents for the barbed fitting.
3) Return the orifice size in the oil trap to a diameter of 5mm. Cost is under $20 for a new oil trap. It probably is possible to plug the 10mm hole and re-drill it to 5mm but why take the risk.
I will probably do step #1 above as soon as the weather warms a bit and see what happens (ten inches of fresh snow and single digit temperatures right now). I didn't initially notice an oil consumption problem with my car after I made these changes in the spring, but now I am consuming one quart of oil every 2000 to 2500 miles. Steps #1 and #2 can be done from the top side without tools. Step #3 will be easier if car is on ramps.
