I turn it off for the worst conditions.... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Wed, 26 Jan 2005 08:20:49 In Reply to: Traction Control, JonCT, Wed, 26 Jan 2005 08:08:47 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
When I know I will be traveling in heavy/slippery snow at low speed (such as a particular driveway I have mentioned in previous postings) I deliberately turn it OFF. Saab even recommends doing this in the Owner's Manual.
The reason for this is because of the way TCS attempts to correct for loss of traction. Per the manual, it will drop engine speed to near idle (regardless of throtle position) and engage the appropriate drive wheel brake to stop the detected wheel spin. Exactly the opposite of what you want when trying to climb a slippery hill.
Pulling out from a slippery side street into traffic can also be exciting. Plan on accelerating slowly while wheels are turned, or disable TCS.
